The New York City area led the nation in job growth over the last year, according to new data released by the federal government.

The U.S. Department of Labor put out the April job growth figures Wednesday and found that the New York-Long Island-New Jersey area saw an additional 160,100 nonfarm jobs between April 2012 and April 2013, the highest jump among big cities.

The agency said Las Vegas and Riverside-San Bernardino, Calif., had the highest unemployment rates among metro areas with populations that are greater than 1 million.
