Five hurt in B'klyn building collapse

Firefighters pulled three workers out of the rubble of a New York City construction collapse. The Fire Department of New York says five people were injured in the collapse at the five-story building in Brooklyn. One is in critical condition. Two are in serious condition.

Images from a helicopter over the scene in Brighton Beach showed rescuers scrambling to claw their way through a pile of rubble where the building had mostly crumbled to the ground.

Lawyers for Dominique Strauss-Kahn defended the former International Monetary Fund director's right to claim diplomatic immunity in the latest court papers filed in the civil lawsuit against him by hotel maid Nafissatou Diallo.

The papers, filed late Monday in support of Strauss-Kahn's motion to dismiss the suit, called Diallo's argument that Strauss-Kahn cannot assert immunity under international law "fundamentally flawed."

The case is the lone remaining legal claim against Strauss-Kahn relating to the May 14 incident.

Genovese killer

The man who killed Kitty Genovese in New York City has been denied parole for the 15th time in a case that became notorious after reports neighbors failed to act as they heard the victim's screams.

The state Division of Parole decision Monday came after a Nov. 1 hearing for Winston Moseley, 76, who's serving 20 years to life for murder, robbery and attempted kidnapping. The 1964 killing of Genovese became an urban horror story after reports nobody tried to help her when she was being stabbed to death. That account has been challenged over the years.
