The beginning of November has become the funniest time of the year in New York. For its 10th year, the New York Comedy Festival is staging events across the city, ranging from performances by stars like Kathy Griffin, Anthony Jeselnik and Charlie Murphy, to dozens of showcases for up-and-comers. Here are a few events to keep an eye out for:

Stand Up for Heroes

For the seventh straight year, the Bob Woodruff Foundation is kicking off the festival with a benefit for injured service members, veterans and their families. Jerry Seinfeld, Bruce Springsteen, Jon Stewart and more will appear. (The Theater at MSG, Wednesday, $105-$5,005)

Behind the Scenes at 'The Colbert Report'

Stephen Colbert and his writers will share the secrets behind the show, telling stories, showing clips and taking questions from the audience. (Town Hall, Thursday, 8 p.m., $46.50- $50.50)

My Dumb Friends

Dan St. Germain and Sean Donnelly perform a live version of their podcast in which they and their friends talk about "the dumbest s--- they've ever done." Sample topic: selling candy to pay for a girlfriend's abortion. (UCB Chelsea, Friday, 9 p.m. $15)

Whitney Cummings

Cummings is best known for landing two sitcoms on two different networks at the same time. While NBC's "Whitney" was canceled earlier this year, CBS's "2 Broke Girls" is still going strong, as is Cummings' stand-up career. (Town Hall, Friday, $37-$47)

Larry David and David Steinberg in Conversation

Perhaps Steinberg will be able to get David to answer the question no other interviewer has, whether "Curb Your Enthusiasm" will return for another season. (Town Hall, Sunday, 7:30 p.m., $67-$87)
