New York Giants' offensive line improvised effectively at Seattle

Others may believe the 6-2 Giants made a statement to the rest of the NFL in their 41-7 win over Seattle. But as far as Rich Seubert is concerned, the only declaration from the NFC East leaders involved their flexibility up front.

“We’re just worried about our own team,” said Seubert, who jumped between center and guard Sunday as injuries and equipment issues forced changes on the fly. “What the league wants to think is what people want to think.”

With Shaun O’Hara out injured, Seubert started at center and Shawn Andrew got his first Giants start at left tackle. A hip injury to David Diehl, moved in at left guard, forced further shifting, and another to backup center Adam Koets caused yet another shuffle with fifth-round rookie Mitch Petrus getting his first action at left guard.

Despite all that, the line held the Seahawks without a sack, which allowed Eli Manning to throw three touchdown passes. It also remained physical enough to run-block the Giants to 197 rushing yards and two Ahmad Bradshaw touchdown runs.

That’s what championship teams do. But Seubert said he was more concerned about preparing for 1-7 Dallas than pondering the playoffs.

“The playoffs are a long way off,” the 10th-year veteran said. “When the end of the season comes, we’ll see where we’re at. But we’ve started off seasons like this before, and it goes one way or the other.

“We just want to keep it going in the right direction.”
