No. 4/5/6 trains canceled overnight this week for maintenance

Thousands of straphangers will need to find another way to get around town this week as the MTA does maintenance overnight in Manhattan and Brooklyn.
No. 4/5/6 trains will not run between Grand Central-42nd Street and Atlantic Avenue from 10 p.m. until 5 a.m., beginning Monday. Regular service resumes Friday.
As many as 37,500 riders will be inconvenienced, according to the MTA, which estimates their commute will be an extra 20 minutes because of the suspended service.
The MTA says doing maintenance work is cheaper, easier and safer for its employees when train service is canceled, since workers don't need to get off the tracks each time a train passes through. The cash-strapped agency has already saved more than $5 million this year by shutting down overnight weekday service.
The weeknight maintenance program, called Fastrack, is expected to be expanded to Upper Manhattan, Brooklyn and Queens next year.
