Jurors finished their first day of deliberations without a verdict on Thursday in the Brooklyn federal corruption trial of veteran state Sen. John Sampson.

Sampson is charged with obstruction of justice and other crimes for trying to cover up his embezzlement of $188,500 from escrow accounts he was responsible for as a court-appointed referee in foreclosure sales -- money he allegedly used in an unsuccessful run for Brooklyn district attorney.

He is a former Senate Democratic leader. The trial lasted three weeks. Deliberations are scheduled to resume on Monday.
