The League of Women Voters of Buffalo Niagara legislative chapter will discuss redistricting at a Jan. 12 meeting featuring Susan Lerner, executive Director of Common Cause New York.

The 6:30 p.m. event at the Buffalo and Erie County Historical Society, 25 Nottingham Court, will concentrate on proposed maps developed by Common Cause New York working with Newsday.

Lerner will provide an overview of the redistricting process and an in-depth explanation of the maps, concentrating on the Western New York region.

The league has called for an independent redistricting commission to draw legislative boundary lines, and a spokeswoman said the meeting is an opportunity to examine maps drawn by independent mapmakers and compare them to maps still to be released the State Legislature's appointed redistricting commission.
