Authorities say a correction officer, an inmate and two of his relatives have been arrested in a conspiracy to smuggle drugs, cell phones, pliers and other items into the Manhattan Detention Center.

District Attorney Cyrus R. Vance Jr. said Thursday that the correction officer worked in the detention center's mailroom.

The case was cracked after an undercover posed as an inmate. Investigators also used wiretaps.

Prosecutors say the criminal activities occurred from December until last month.
