Gotham is set to get scores of charging stations for electric cars as Gov. Andrew Cuomo urges New Yorkers to swap their gas guzzlers for electric vehicles.

Cuomo said the state awarded $4.4 million to 10 groups to add more than 300 charging stations throughout the state. Each of those stations can have several machines.

"With New Yorkers facing higher prices at the pump, the state is stepping up to make owning an electric vehicle an affordable and convenient option," Cuomo said in a statement yesterday.

New York City will get at least 120 chargers, which will be placed in parking garages and lots throughout the city by next April.--
