New York City is roasting under a potentially dangerous brew of heat and humidity, as officials warn the elderly and chronically ill to find cool refuges.
It was 94 degrees at Central Park at 1 p.m. Thursday, but felt like 106 degrees with the humidity.
People were being warned to keep themselves and their pets hydrated. Some health experts also were warning that hot weather could lead to short tempers.
Meanwhile, the city says it has about 500 cooling centers open throughout the five boroughs. They’ll remain open through Saturday.
The city’s Office of Emergency Management was warning the elderly or people with a chronic health condition to stay out of the heat.
