NYC taxi drivers to ask for fare hike

The organization representing New York City taxi drivers says it will ask the city for a fare hike because of soaring gas prices.
 
 The head of the Taxi Workers Alliance, Bhairavi Desai , says she will formally request the increase next week. 
 
She says the proposed hike would amount to about $1.50 more for a typical ride.
 
Taxi and Limousine Commission Chairman David Yassky said he understands that when gas hits $4.50 a gallon, it can be hard for the drivers "to pay the rent and put food on the table." He said he will give their request the consideration it’s due.
