New York’s continuing crackdown on commercial drivers who use aliases to get multiple licenses has led to another 51 arrests, most of them in the New York City metro area.

Department of Motor Vehicles investigators have been using facial recognition technology to go over 600,000 commercial licenses looking for drivers who may have used a false name, often after losing their legitimate license.

State officials say Thursday that four Metropolitan Transportation Authority employees are among those arrested this month. All are charged with offering a false instrument, a felony, and some lesser charges. There have been 800 arrests since February 2010.

The investigation got renewed attention after authorities said the tour bus driver in a crash that killed 15 people in the Bronx last March had violations under another name.
