Authorities say a worker was killed by a falling rock at a Manhattan tunnel excavation project.

The accident occurred around 8 p.m. in a tunnel beneath Park Avenue.

His name was not immediately released.

The work is part of the East Side Access project. It will connect the Long Island Rail Road’s Main and Port Washington lines in Queens to a new LIRR terminal beneath Grand Central Terminal.

Tunnel work is known as a dangerous job. More than two dozen of the workers, known as sandhogs, have died over the years in projects around New York City.
