New York City and federal authorities say they busted a kingpin in a Puerto Rican cartel with $1.3 million in cocaine in a Times Square probe.

They say Ricardo Gonzalez-Santiago was arrested after leaving a hotel carrying 79 pounds of cocaine. Cops and federal authorities trailed him after he left Puerto Rico. He is described by authorities as a lieutenant in a powerful cartel there. Police also arrested 10 other people in the investigation.

The investigation began with undercover officers buying drugs in the East Village.

Gonzalez-Santiago has been indicted on drug trafficking charges in New York. It wasn't clear if he had an attorney.
