Some voters are hoping Police Commissioner Ray Kelly will join the 2013 New York City mayor’s race.
A Quinnipiac University poll released Wednesday finds that 23 percent of the city’s voters want to elect the soft-spoken police commissioner into the top job at City Hall. That’s more support than voters gave any other candidate.
Kelly was the only potential candidate mentioned in the poll who some say might run on the Republican ticket. Forty-eight percent of the GOP voters surveyed picked him.
But even among registered Democrats, Kelly came in ahead of all but one other candidate. The number one pick for Democrats was City Council Speaker Christine Quinn.
Among all voters, Quinn came in second. She’s followed by Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz and then Comptroller John Liu.
