NYPD cop who shot motorists while drunk gets prison time

A NYPD officer who got drunk after a day at the police shooting range and then shot two motorists in Pelham was sentenced to 9 years in prison on Wednesday by a judge in White Plains.

Brendan Cronin, 29, of Yonkers, who pleaded guilty to attempted murder and other crimes last year, had gotten drunk at a City Island bar with colleagues after a day at Rodman’s Neck allegedly getting training on high-risk traffic stops.

Near midnight on April 29, 2014, the off-duty cop approached a car stopped at a light in Pelham and opened fire, wounding one victim with six gunshot wounds, officials said.

His targets have sued Cronin, the NYPD, other officers and the bar that served him in federal court in Manhattan. In addition to attempted murder, Cronin was sentenced on two counts of assault and one count of driving while intoxicated.
