An NYPD officer was shot in the arm in Brooklyn and taken to Brookdale University Hospital and Medical Center Monday night, a police spokesman said.

The spokesman told Newsday that other people also were shot, but gave no further details. The shooting comes as at least 42 people were shot in the city during the Labor Day weekend.

The Associated Press reported late Monday that at least one person died in the shooting, which was just blocks from the city's West Indian Day Parade, where several other people had been injured in gunfire earlier in the day.

WNBC / 4 reported that the shooting occurred about 9:30 p.m. along Park Place in the Prospect Heights neighborhood.
