In the wake of ticket-fixing allegations against NYPD cops, the department is creating a new unit within the Internal Affairs Bureau to ensure it won't happen again, Police Commissioner Ray Kelly told the City Council on Wednesday.
The new unit will “pursue any sign of manipulation of the system,” Kelly said, and will serve as a “robust watchdog.”
The Bronx district attorney has been investigating more than 40 officers suspected of wiping out parking tickets and other summonses as special favors. So far, no criminal charges have been filed.
