NYPD investigating sex assault allegations against attorney Sanford Rubenstein
High-profile attorney Sanford Rubenstein is being investigated for an alleged sexual assault at his Manhattan apartment hours after the big birthday bash Wednesday night for his friend the Rev. Al Sharpton, a law enforcement source said last night.
The source, who asked not to be identified, said the investigation was active but stressed that no charges had been filed.
Rubenstein, who has made headlines over the years in prominent civil rights, police brutality and medical malpractice cases, denied through a spokesman any wrongdoing.
"Sanford Rubenstein vehemently denies any misconduct," said attorney Michael Ross.
A spokesman for the NYPD wouldn't comment about the matter last night.
Rubenstein has represented a number of clients and families in police brutality cases, currently including the family of Eric Garner, a Staten Island man who died in a street confrontation with police in July.
Rubenstein represented Abner Louima, the Haitian immigrant who was attacked by police in a Brooklyn precinct and in 2001 got a $7.1 million settlement from New York City.
