The NYPD says a man was fatally shot in the Bronx in a police-involved shooting.

It happened at the Castle Hill Housing Development around 11 p.m. Thursday.

Police say they responded after getting a call about shots being fired at the location. They say they encountered a man who fit the description of a suspect holding a gun.

They say police and the suspect fired shots.

The suspect then fled on foot to Randall and Olmstead avenues where more shots were fired. It wasn't clear who fired those shots.

Police say the suspect was pronounced dead at the scene.

A .45-caliber handgun was recovered at the scene.

Police are investigating.
