Fast food joint or fight club?
The NYPD outfitted the West Third Street McDonald's this past month with live-streaming security cameras typically used to monitor unruly bars, according to dnainfo.com.
Three brawls at the McDonald's were caught on camera and uploaded to the web, the most recent of which took place on St. Patrick's Day.
The fast food joint is now fully equipped with technology that will allow police to monitor it in real time, 6th Precinct commanding officer Deputy Inspector Brandon del Pozo said at a community meeting this past weekend.
“They have given Internet access to our officers, to their video cameras, so we can see directly into McDonald’s from our computers,” del Pozo said.
First-floor seating at night has also been removed from the location and two private security officers have been hired.
“[Police and I] are working together to ensure the ongoing safety of the community,” said Carmen Paulino, owner of the franchise. “The safety of my employees and customers is my first priority.”
Council Speaker Christine Quinn called for a boycott of the location on March 26. She passed out fliers and encouraged individuals to pressure the McDonald’s into increasing security and “training their employees.”
