An off-duty NYPD officer was shot in the hand Sunday night and a second person was critically injured, police officials said.

The officer was being treated at Jamaica Hospital for nonlife-threatening injuries, police said. The other person was shot in the torso, and he was listed in critical condition, also at Jamaica Hospital, police said.

The officer, who was not identified, was shot in the left hand near South Road and Inwood Avenue in Jamaica, a police spokeswoman said. Commissioner Ray Kelly was to visit the officer at the hospital, she said.

A police spokesman said circumstances of the shooting were being investigated. Investigators were at the hospital speaking to the injured officer, a police spokeswoman said.
