An off-duty court officer shot and critically wounded a man in Queens Sunday night, the NYPD said.

A police spokesman said detectives were investigating the shooting that occurred at about 8:45 p.m. near Liberty Avenue and Merrick Boulevard in Jamaica, Queens.

The male off-duty court officer, shot another male, who was suspected of attempting to rob the officer, the NYPD spokesman said, adding that the incident was still being investigated and the exact circumstances of the shooting were still being reviewed.

Police said the suspect was transported to a nearby hospital, where he was in critical condition late Sunday night.
