The NYPD is looking for a man who in September lifted an 86-pound bucket of gold flakes worth $1.6 million from the back of a delivery truck.
Police said in a news release the suspect was walking on West 48th Street in midtown about 4:30 p.m. on Sept. 29 when he spotted the 5-gallon aluminum bucket in the back of the truck parked between Fifth and Sixth avenues.
Police said the thief swiped the bucket when the guard briefly went back to the truck cab to get his cellphone.
Because of the weight of the bucket, it took the suspect an hour to make what is normally a 10-minute walk as he fled east on 48th Street, according to The Associated Press.
Police on Wednesday released photographs of the suspect and a video of the theft taken from surveillance cameras.
The suspect is described as being about 5-foot-6, 150 pounds and is between 50 and 60 years old, police said.
He was wearing a black vest, green shirt and bluejeans and was carrying a black messenger bag.
Police said the man probably did not know what was inside the bucket.
The AP reported that police think the man could now be hiding out in Florida.
