Authorities say officers found a loaded gun in the backpack of a man who drew their attention when he jumped a subway turnstile.

The 24-year-old Brooklyn man is facing charges including criminal possession of a weapon and obtaining transportation without paying.

Police say officers on a subway train saw the man jump over a turnstile and board an S train in Brooklyn early Saturday. They approached him, and the man got out of the train at another station.

The man was taken into custody after a brief chase and the officers found the gun. It was a semi-automatic handgun, and was loaded with eight bullets.
