Area law enforcement agencies, including Nassau, Suffolk and New York City, have stepped up patrols of synagogues after Tuesday's deadly attack at a temple in Israel.

"We are intensifying patrols at a number of vulnerable targets in Nassau County, including synagogues, churches and malls," Insp. Kenneth Lack, a Nassau police spokesman, said at an unrelated news conference at police headquarters in Mineola.

In a news release, Nassau officials also said "there have been no known threats to any person(s) or institutions in Nassau County."

Suffolk County said in a statement that officers "will be making frequent and irregular checks" at Jewish institutions.

NYPD Commissioner William Bratton said his department is "following developments in Jerusalem closely and working with the FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force" to monitor developments.

Bratton's statement also said there is "no specific credible threat to New York City."

New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio said he was "horrified and heartbroken" by the attack and said his city stands in solidarity with Israel.

He expressed hopes for a "peaceful and secure future for all of its people."
