NYU considers expansion to World Trade Center
New York University may one day move to ground zero.
University spokesman John Beckman says the university is interested in expanding to several spaces in downtown Manhattan. That includes the spot where one of five towers is planned at the World Trade Center site.
NYU Senior Vice President Lynne Brown has asked to discuss possible sites with a downtown rebuilding agency and the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. That agency owns ground zero.
A Port Authority spokesman says the agency is willing to meet with NYU. The agency eventually plans to build a tower on the spot where a former bank building damaged on Sept. 11 is being dismantled.
The university wants to increase its space in the city by 40 percent over the next two decades.
