President Barack Obama is meeting privately with families who lost loved ones in a plane crash near Buffalo last year.

The families have been pushing for aviation safety legislation since the crash, which killed 50 people. The White House says the president would offer his condolences at the meeting.

Inquiries into the crash of Continental Connection Flight 3407 raised serious questions about the pilots’ training, skills and schedules.

Obama is in Buffalo on Thursday for a three-hour visit to promote his economic agenda.
