Obama to hold $30,800-per-head dinner in Harlem

President Barack Obama is slated to roll through Harlem later this month to raise big bucks at a $30,800-a-head dinner.

The president will hold a six-table dinner at Red Rooster — whose chef, Marcus Samuelsson, prepared Obama's first White House state gala — March 29 to raise money for the DNC, officials confirmed yesterday.

The dinner will be followed by an invitation-only reception at Harlem's Studio Museum, said Politic.com. Neither the museum nor the Red Rooster returned calls for comment.

While some Harlemites have said the sky-high price is discouraging, democratic political consultant Hank Sheinkopf said it's politics as usual.

"This is a two-for. New York is the ATM of American politics … and he's going back to the base that got him elected in the first place," he said, adding that the trip will help assemble support for Obama's 2012 re-election campaign.

"He's got to raise as much money as he can, because he's in for the fight of his life," Sheinkopf said.

The restaurant is in the district of embattled representative Charlie Rangel, whom Obama irked last summer when he suggested that Rangel should retire. Still, Rangel spokesmen said he expects his boss to attend.
