Obama won NYC by biggest margin in 100 years

President Barack Obama won the largest share of votes of any presidential candidate in more than 100 years in New York City during the last election, according to a Bloomberg News report.

Obama defeated Republican candidate Mitt Romney by a stifling 81% to 18% in the city, according to a certified vote count released by the state board of elections.

No candidate has performed as well since 1898, when the five boroughs were first combined, according to data compiled by Bloomberg from the state elections board and the 2005 books "America at the Polls" and "The Encyclopedia of New York State."

Overall turnout in the city fell to 2.45 million votes, from 2.62 million in 2008, the report said.

The last Republican presidential nominee to win New York was Calvin Coolidge in 1924.
