An Occupy Wall Street protester was arrested early Thursday morning after allegedly fracturing an EMT's ankle, officials said.
Police went into Zuccotti Park at approximately 12:30 a.m. after being asked for help with an emotionally disturbed person, they said.
Cops said Joshua Ehrenberg, 20, of Rochester, kicked an unidentified EMT as he was being taken out of the park.
"As they were escorting him into the ambulance, he kicked the EMT into a ladder," a police spokesman said.
An FDNY spokesman said the injured EMT was taken to Bellevue Hospital, but the FDNY and Bellevue did not know his condition Thursday night.
"This guy was clearly crazy and the security people were trying to keep him under control," protester spokesman Jeff Smith said of Ehrenberg.
But Smith said Ehrenberg never kicked the medic. "The EMT was backing up and tripped and fell" as the crowd tried to make room for police, he said.
Ehrenberg is charged with felony assault and obstruction of government administration. He is expected to be arraigned Thursday evening after press time, according to the district attorney's office, and it was unclear if he had a lawyer.
