Occupy Wall Street protests at GCT against military spending act

More than a hundred Occupy Wall Street protesters swarmed Grand Central Terminal during rush hour Tuesday night to rally against a military spending act recently signed by President Barack Obama.

At least two protesters were arrested by MTA police for disorderly conduct and resisting arrest, and “several” others were given summonses for disorderly conduct, an MTA spokeswoman said. The charges stemmed from protesters allegedly blocking staircases in the historic train station.

But protester spokesman Jeff Smith, who was among those at Grand Central at 5 p.m., said people were being arrested without warning for making announcements and telling commuters about their discontent with the act, especially because it allows the indefinite detention of terror suspects by the military.

“Essentially, we’re all terrorists,” Smith said. “We can be jailed without a trial if people choose to deem us that way.”
