Occupy Wall Street protesters will rally outside a Manhattan fundraiser for Republican presidential front-runner Mitt Romney Wednesday.
Demonstrators will gather outside the Waldorf-Astoria hotel in midtown at 11 a.m. to slam Romney as a “1 percenter.” According to protester Han Shan, faux-supporters of the former Massachusetts governor will be “dressed to the nines” in top hats and monocles.
“[Romney] represents exactly what’s wrong with our politics,” Shan said Tuesday, scoffing at Romney’s statement at the Iowa State Fair in August that “corporations are people.”
Wednesday’s fundraiser is “a who’s who of Wall Street executives and the 1% and a bevy of billionaires who think they can get democracy just by being the highest bidder,” Shan said.
A spokesman for Romney’s campaign did not return a message for comment Tuesday.
Shan stressed that the protest wasn’t merely targeting Romney for his political affiliation, saying, “The next time the President comes to raise money, we’ll be out there too.”
