An off-duty New York City police officer having an early morning meal at a Bronx diner was shot and wounded after a dispute.

Police said the officer was in stable condition at Jacobi Medical Center Sunday with a wound to the lower back.

He had been at the Pelham Bay Diner around 5 a.m. when the argument with another group took place. Police said the suspects took off in a car, and no arrests have been made.
