Officials: 2 people slashed near Times Square

Two men were treated Tuesday night for nonlife-threatening injuries after they were slashed at the Port Authority Bus Terminal near Times Square as New Year's Eve festivities went on, authorities said.

A New York Fire Department spokesman said the department received a call of multiple stabbings at 8:43 p.m.

One victim was taken to Bellevue Hospital Center for treatment, and the other was treated on the scene, said Joe Pentangelo, a Port Authority spokesman.

Pentangelo said the incident occurred in the main concourse of the bus terminal between the suspect and the victims, who he said were believed to know each other. Afterward, the male suspect fled the terminal. He was still at large at 10 p.m., Pentangelo said.

The Port Authority Bus Terminal is located in midtown near Times Square, where New Year's Eve festivities were warming up with hundreds of thousands of revelers from all over the world who flock to watch the crystal ball drop each year.
