It may be weeks before officials know what caused the death of a Chelsea man found bound and gagged inside his ransacked apartment Friday, a spokeswoman for the medical examiner said yesterday.
Police were investigating the possibility that the death of John Laubach, 57, a former florist well known around Chelsea for toting his white cockatoo, Bolo, on his shoulder, was the result of a sexual encounter that became violent or a possible home invasion robbery, according to the New York Post.
According to published reports, there was no sign of forced entry into Laubach's apartment at 212 W. 22nd St. and police were hacking Laubach's cell phone and computer for clues as to who may have seen him last. Acquaintances told the Post that Laubach, who regularly attended the Church of the Ascension on Fifth Ave., often opened his home to needy young men.
