On-duty NYPD officer commits suicide

The NYPD says a police officer committed suicide while on duty in Queens.
Police spokesman Paul Browne said in a statement that the 28-year-old officer died as a result of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
He said the officer was taken to Long Island Jewish Hospital where he was pronounced dead Thursday night.
The officer's name was withheld pending family notification.
No other details were provided.
