Democrat David Weprin and Republican rival Bob Turner spent the eve of Tuesday’s special election campaigning in a congressional race that is tighter than anyone expected.

A Public Policy Poll released Sunday shows Turner edging Weprin 47% to 41% – a surprise turnaround in a district that elected ex-Rep. Anthony Weiner, a Democrat, for seven terms.

Weiner infamously resigned in June following revelations that he sent lewd pictures of himself to women online.

Weprin, a Queens state assemblyman, was hoping some last-minute robo-calls from former President Bill Clinton and Gov. Andrew Cuomo would help his chances in the heavily Democratic district, which straddles Brooklyn and Queens.

Although Weprin, 55, has raised about three times as much money as Turner, 70, the former media exec and Tea Party supporter is poised to become the spoiler.

“We’re going to win, and the message will come through loud and clear tomorrow,” Turner said on the campaign trail.

Pollsters said a Democratic loss would reflect the overall dissatisfaction voters have with President Barack Obama.

Weprin disagreed:“We’re going to have a big victory tomorrow.”
