One dead, one injured after being struck by separate trains

Updated 9:44 p.m. One person was killed by a subway train and another injured in separate incidents that happened about the same time Tuesday at the same Harlem station, the NYPD said.

At the 125th Street station on the Lexington Avenue line, a man was seen climbing out of the roadbed onto the passenger platform at 4:12 p.m., slightly ahead of an approaching No. 5 train, said Deputy Commissioner Paul Browne.

The man, 50, was taken to Harlem Hospital Center with a "deep gash" to his left buttock, cuts to his right leg and a broken pelvis, he said.

The man " was intoxicated, by his own admission, so intoxicated he doesn't remember how he got on the tracks," Browne said.

Then 19 minutes later, on the opposite side of the same platform, a rider on a northbound No. 6 train was outside between the fifth and sixth cars when the train began pulling out, Browne said.

"A passenger on the train is using the space in between the fifth and sixth cars sort of as a toilet," he said. "He apparently loses his balance, falls between those two cars and is killed."

His name was held pending family notification, but police said he was a Bronx resident, 31.
