It’s Tony time! The nominations will be announced Tuesday at 8 a.m. And, for the first time, the announcements will be streamed live at TonyAwards.com.
Unfortunately, because of the large number of productions that opened this season, plenty of worthy shows and performers will get passed over for nominations.
Best Play
But we think the nominees for Best Play will include “War Horse,” “Good People” and “Bengal Tiger at the Baghdad Zoo,” with either “Jerusalem” or “Motherf----- With the Hat” gaining the final nom.
Best Musical
“The Book of Mormon” and “Sister Act” will definitely receive nominations for Best Musical. And in a perfect world, “The Scottsboro Boys” and “Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson” would receive the remaining nominations. But since both shows are closed, “Catch Me If You Can” and “Priscilla Queen of the Desert” could steal those slots.
Best Revival
“The Merchant of Venice,” “The Normal Heart” and “The Importance of Being Earnest” will be nominated for Best Revival of a Play, with the final nomination going to “Born Yesterday” or “Arcadia.”
Best actors and actresses
Performers expected to receive nominations include Al Pacino and Lily Rabe (“The Merchant of Venice”), Patina Miller and Victoria Clark (“Sister Act”), Brian Bedford (“The Importance of Being Earnest”), Joe Mantello (“The Normal Heart”), Mark Rylance (“Jerusalem”), Nina Arianda and Jim Belushi (“Born Yesterday”), Edie Falco (“The House of Blue Leaves”), Josh Gad (“The Book of Mormon”), Daniel Radcliffe (“How to Succeed”) and Sutton Foster (“Anything Goes”).
