Owner of East Village bar d.b.a. dies after bicycle crash

Ray Deter, the owner of popular East Village bar d.b.a., died Sunday, less than a week after being struck by a car while riding his bike on Canal Street. The city medical examiner’s office cited blunt head trauma as the cause of Deter’s death.
Deter, 53, was riding his bike down West Broadway during rush hour on June 27 when a car hit him as he turned onto Canal Street. The driver was reportedly not charged in the incident.
