A city parks employee was charged Wednesday with stabbing his colleague to death at a Flushing rec center on Tuesday afternoon -- hours after Mayor Michael Bloomberg held a news conference there.
Robert Swann, a 51-year-old seasonal employee, allegedly admitted to police that he thrust a knife into 31-year-old Ezra Black's torso on Tuesday afternoon, officials said, but claimed that Black started the fight by calling him names and swinging at him. Black was also a seasonal employee for the department, according to the Queens district attorney's office.
Swann, of Ozone Park, was also charged with tampering with evidence for ditching the murder weapon and clothes he wore in a field near Flushing Meadows-Corona park.
Judge Gia Morris ordered Swann to be held without bail on Wednesday. He faces up to 25 years to life in prison if convicted.
Swann's lawyer could not be reached for comment Wednesday night.
