• Feb. 9, 1964: The Fab Four made the first of nine appearances on “The Ed Sullivan Show.” McCartney returned to the famed Theater in July, 2009, when he gave a free performance atop the marquee in connection with an appearance on “Late Show on David Letterman.”
• The Beatles were the first band to play a baseball stadium, drawing 55,000 people to Shea Stadium in Queens for a historic Aug. 15, 1965 performance that broke box office records and left the entire city in the thrall of Beatlemania.
• McCartney doesn’t just play music in New York stadiums. He was spotted two years ago joyously canoodling with his new wife Nancy Shevell while taking in a game at Yankee Stadium.
• McCartney, whose plane was grounded jet at JFK as the 9/11 attacks unfolded, raised more than $30 million for the World Trade center victims by organizing the star-studded “Concert for New York City” on Oct. 20, 2001 at Madison Square Garden.
• Much of McCartney’s extensive real estate holdings are secret, but he is known to have a residence in Manhattan. Three years ago he was reportedly house-hunting to find a pad closer to Nancy Shevell’s East 83rd St. residence.
