Harlem’s famous Apollo Theater finally will get to host one performer it’s never had: Paul McCartney.
The ex-Beatle is slated to play at the theater Dec. 13 in an invitation-only concert sponsored by Sirius XM satellite radio.
McCartney, 68, will play his “greatest hits,” including Beatles, Wings and solo songs, Sirius said. The concert, to celebrate Sirius’ reaching 20 million subscribers, will be broadcast live.
“We are thrilled to offer [subscribers] an opportunity to attend the event and listen live to this once-in-a-lifetime concert,” said Scott Greenstein, president of Sirius.
Also yesterday, Apple announced that iTunes will now sell The Beatles’ catalog. Their music has long been requested in the music store, but legal rights have kept it under raps.
