MTA: No impact on LIRR service expected after rubbish fire on tracks at Penn

The FDNY responded to Penn Station to tackle “a rubbish fire” on one of the tracks, a department spokesperson told Newsday.
The department received a call regarding the fire on Track 8 about 2:41 p.m., the spokesperson said.
Power was cut to Tracks 5 through 9 so firefighters could begin to extinguish it, the spokesperson said. About 3:35 p.m., power remained off and fire suppression operations underway. No injuries had been reported during the incident.
New York City’s official emergency management alert system told commuters to expect “mass transit disruptions, cancellations & emergency personnel near Penn Station” and to rely on “alternate routes.”
A spokesperson for the MTA said the impacted tracks should not disrupt LIRR service. Amtrak and NJ Transit use the disrupted tracks.
