Fireworks are nice and all, but there is no greater July Fourth tradition than the picnic. Take advantage of New York's great spots for dining al fresco:

Hudson River Park
Pier 63 Chelsea
Pier 63 in Chelsea is waterfront dining without the price tag to match. Make yourself comfortable on the grass and saddle up to wide views of the Hudson River (and New Jersey). It's a good spot to catch the Macy's fireworks too.

Pelham Bay Park
1 Orchard Beach Rd. Bronx
Pelham Bay Park is more than three times the size of Central Park - so that means there will be no fighting for a picnic spot, even on a busy holiday.

Fort Tryon Park
Cabrini Blvd. at Ft. Washington Ave. Washington Heights
Located at Manhattan's highest point, Fort Tryon Park boasts expansive views of the Palisades and Hudson River.

Brooklyn Bridge Park
Main and Plymouth sts. Brooklyn
You won't catch the fireworks from Brooklyn, but beneath the shadows of the Brooklyn and Manhattan bridges, you will find some of the best views of Manhattan
