Police: Disabled man found dead in van
New York City police say a disabled man was found dead after he was left inside a van for six hours.
Police say the 48-year-old victim was discovered unconscious and unresponsive Tuesday in the rear seat of a Ford Econoline in Harlem.
Police say Eason Alonzio of Manhattan was pronounced dead at the scene.
They say he was among a group of people being dropped off at a day program on Lexington Avenue around 9 a.m.
A passer-by noticed the man inside the van around 3:30 p.m. and alerted police.
The van belonged to the Association for the Help of Retarded Children, which couldn’t immediately be reached for comment.
The medical examiner will determine the cause of death.
Local media reported that the driver and matron were taken into custody.
