Police said they arrested two men who fled the scene of a beating death in Corona, Queens, early Saturday morning.

The victim, Jose Cortes, 41, of North Corona, was beaten with fists and a bicycle chain and was found unconscious and unresponsive shortly after 2 a.m., New York City police said.

Cops pursued the two men, 23 and 24, on foot when they saw them leaving the scene near Linden Park, police said.

Police sources said the incident began at a sports bar called La Nortena, two blocks from where Cortes was found. His assailants, who apparently didn't know him before the altercation, beat him with a belt and bicycle chain, police said.

Police said they recovered the chain used in the attack.

Cortes was pronounced dead upon arrival at New York Hospital Medical Center of Queens.

The names of the arrested men had not been released. Charges were pending.
