An off-duty police officer who may have been drinking was involved in a collision with a sanitation truck in midtown Manhattan early Saturday morning, New York City police said.

The officer collided with the truck, which was headed in the opposite direction when it took a left turn in front of him on East 57th Street at Fifth Avenue, police said.

Police said that alcohol was thought to be involved in the crash.

The car, a Chrysler 300 Sedan, ended up on the sidewalk in front of Tiffany & Co. The driver as well as two passengers in the car were treated at a hospital where they were in stable condition - a broken arm being the most serious injury, police said. The driver of the sanitation truck was not injured.

Police have not identified either driver.
