A block of 34th Street between Seventh and Eighth avenues was closed Wednesday for a suspicious package that ended up being an empty suitcase, police said.

The street - near Penn Station - was cordoned off Wednesday morning so the bomb squad could investigate, a spokesman for the NYPD said.

The report of the package came a day after a life-prison sentence was imposed for would-be Times Square bomber Faisal Shahzad.
